The technical director of the WMF visits the Synagogue

On 28^th July Mr. Mark Weber, the technical director of the World Monuments Fund and Mr. Andras Roman, member of the board of the “SOS Synagogue” Foundation visited Subotica with the aim to see the Synagogue and to meet the people involved in the work of the Foundation.

            On the first day of their short visit they met the Mayor of Subotica, Mr. Geza Kucsera, and they also had a formal meeting with the members of the Executive Committee of the Foundation. This meeting was attended by Mr. Gabor Demeter, Expert associate of the Inter Municipal Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Subotica, and by Ms. Jelisaveta Pastor, accountant. They held a presentation on the latest status of the works on the Synagogue in a technical and financial aspect.

            The next day Mr. Weber and his companion, Mr. Roman visited the Synagogue with the assistance of Mr. Demeter and Mr. Laslo Kiraly, architect. Mr. Weber also climbed to the roof to examine the works needed on the roof and on the structure cupolas.

            Later that day the members of the Jewish Community joined the gentlemen, and held a press conference together with Dr. Franjo Prčić, President of the Jewish Community, and with Mr. Árpád Papp, Chairman of the Executive Council of the City Assembly, on the future plans for the reconstruction and revitalization of the Synagogue.
