1.   HRONOLOGY OF THE LATEST ACTIVITIES

o       2003. The SOS SYNAGOGUE Foundation accepted the proposal of Gábor Demeter, arch. expert associate of the Inter Municipal Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Subotica, for the new purpose of the Synagogue in Subotica to be used as an international / regional (with Hungary & Romania) cultural centre for Jews and others.

o       September 12 and 13, 2003. a celebration has been held on the 100th aniversary of the construction of the Synagogue in Subotica. Related to this programme, Gabor Demeter, arh. expert associate of the Inter Municipal   Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Subotica has held a multi medial presentation of the Program of the restoration and revitalization of the Synagogue in Subotica.

o       At the end of 2003, documentation (designs) for  undertaking protective measures on the external surface (roof construction, and belonging elements, and the facades) has been completed by the experts of the Inter Municipal Institute for Monument Preservation, Subotica with the financial support of  the Ministry of Culture and Media of Republic of Serbia.

o       At the end of 2003. a competition has been completed on the construction of a temporary protective fence arround the building site of  the Syinagogue, to stop further threats by vandalism. The works will start these days.

o       At the end of 2003, all of the new glazed roof tiles and ridge tiles purchased from the ZSOLNAY CERAMICS MANUFACTURE in PÉCS, R. of Hungary. has been delivered to Subotica. The total price of the contract was 83.400 EUR.

o       As we plan to start with the construction works on the conservation and reconstruction of the roof structure and glazed tile cover of the Synagogue, during this building season, a competition is on now, in order to select the best constructor company, to execute the works.

 

2.      DESCRIPTION OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING SOURCES: 

§         WORLD MONUMENTS FUND (JEWISH HERITAGE GRANT PROGRAM)

o       For the year of 2003, US$60.000,00 approved.

o        (US$30.000,00) already transferred to the bank account of the “SOS SYNAGOGUE” FOUNDATION - to cover the part of the costs of the technical measures on the part of the roof and belonging elements. These are spent for the purchase of the glazed roof tiles from the Zsolnay Factory. The rest of (US$30.000,00) is expected to be transferred to the bank account of the “SOS SYNAGOGUE” FOUNDATION - to cover the part of the further costs of the technical measures on the roof and belonging elements.

§         Municipality of Subotica (“SOS SINAGOGA” FOUNDATION)

             - for the year of  2002:

o       The amount of money awarded for this project along with the date of award: 1.190.000,00 SCD (1 US$ = 60 SCD) - US$20.000,00

- for the year of  2003:

o       The amount of money awarded for this project along with the date of award: 1.310.000,00 SCD (1 US$ = 60 SCD) - US$ 21.833,00

- for the year of  2004:

o       The amount of money awarded for this project from the local budget is 3.000.000,00 SCD. (momentary course of 1 US$ = 57 SCD) – US$52.631.00

§         2003, The Ministry of Culture and Media awarded to the Inter Municipal Institute for Monument Preservation, Subotica 1.914.761,00 SCD (US$ 34.192,00) for the completing the documentation (designs) for  undertaking protective measures on the external surface (roof construction, and belonging elements, and the facades) – Phase 1.1.

§         For the year of 2004., Inter Municipal Institute for Monument Preservation, Subotica applied with 3.654.000,00 SCD (US$ 65.250,00) for financial assistance from the Ministry of Culture and Media of Republic of Serbia for completing the documentation for undertaking protective measures in the interiour, with designing all of the  correct plumbing, heating and electricity installations, supporting functions related to the new purpose of the object – Phase 1.2. No results received yet.

§         February 2004, the Inter Municipal Institute for Monument Preservation, Subotica applied for financial assistance from the UNESCO PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME 2003-2004 with US$45.900,00 for the conservation, restauration and reconstruction of the external surfaces – phase 2.1 & 2.2. No answer yet.
